The number of cancer-related deaths is 126,000.” She emphasized that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women, noting that one in eight women carries a risk of cancer and one in four women develops it. Touching upon risk factors for cancer, Kapan said, “Being female and aging are the main causes. In addition, increased alcohol consumption, smoking, and obesity are also factors that increase the risk.” She made the following statements:
Professor Dr. Selin Kapan, noting that men also carry a risk of breast cancer, said, “For every 100 women, 1 man develops breast cancer. In fact, this condition can be more severe in male patients.” Pointing out that breast cancer doesn’t always show symptoms, Professor Dr. Kapan stated that regular annual doctor checkups can minimize this risk. Underlining the importance of raising awareness for early diagnosis, especially in breast cancer, Professor Dr. Kapan said, “Early diagnosis increases the chances of successful treatment, the chances of survival, and the likelihood of achieving a positive outcome in treatment.”
The seminar concluded with Dr. Arta Armani, Assistant Professor at the Health Services Policies Application and Research Center, presenting a plaque to Professor Dr. Selin Kapan.
