Our Faculty’s First Scientific Event: “1st Symposium on Patient Safety in Pharmacotherapy” Was Held
The “1st Symposium on Patient Safety in Pharmacotherapy,” which constitutes the first scientific event of our faculty, was held in three sessions on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at T Block Turquoise Hall, with the participation of numerous academic staff and students.
The symposium began with the opening speeches delivered by our esteemed Rector, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hakkı Aydın, and our Dean, Prof. Dr. A. Nurten Özdemir, followed by the first session, titled “Drugs Used in Chronic Diseases – Session I”, chaired by Prof. Dr. Fikret Vehbi İzzettin and Prof. Dr. İlkay Küçükgüzel.
In this session, Prof. Dr. Şule Apikoğlu presented on “Medication Errors,” Prof. Dr. Elif Gülsüm Ümit on “Anticoagulant, Antithrombotic and Thrombolytic Drugs,” and Prof. Dr. Kubilay Karşıdağ on “Antidiabetic Drugs.”
In the second session, titled “Drugs Used in Chronic Diseases – Session II”, chaired by Prof. Dr. Fikret Vehbi İzzettin and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Öztürk, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ağırbaşlı delivered a presentation on “Drugs Used in Cardiovascular Diseases”and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Songül Tezcan presented “Patient Safety in Oncological Drugs.”
In the final session, titled “The Changing Role of Pharmacists in Drug Therapy and Pharmacovigilance Worldwide”, chaired by Prof. Dr. Fikriye Uras and Prof. Dr. Bedia Kaymakçıoğlu, Prof. Dr. Semra Sardaş shared insights on “Pharmacovigilance / Rational Drug Use”, Prof. Dr. Mesut Sancar delivered a talk on “The Changing Role of Pharmacists to Ensure Safe Medication Use Worldwide”, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kemale Leyla Bingöl presented “Malpractice in Drug Therapy and Its Legal Dimensions.”
