The Huns, Avars, Danube Bulgars, Pechenegs, and Cumans migrated to this geography from the North Black Sea region. With the emergence of the Ottoman Turks, a strategic advance from the Anatolian geography to these ancient lands began in the mid-14th century, ultimately establishing a centuries-long dominion.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This dominion undoubtedly led to multifaceted Turkish influences and interactions in this geography and, as a reality arising from this interaction, paved the way for the Turks to form an indispensable historical past with Balkan nations.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Especially since the mid-20th century, researchers conducting academic history in many countries worldwide have produced numerous scientific studies focusing on the political, military, economic, religious, and cultural influences of the Turks in the aforementioned Balkan geography. These studies continue to increase today.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>This symposium, titled &#8220;The Balkans and Turkey in the 100th Year of the Republic,&#8221; organized by our university&#8217;s Department of History and the IAU ATAM, focuses on the political, military, economic, and religious influences and the organizational structure of the Turks in the historical geography described as Southeastern Europe or the Balkans.
