The Academic Opening Year of our Faculty of Communication started with Prof. Dr. Haluk \u015eahin’s opening lecture titled “Dijital Tufan”. Emeritus Prof. Dr. \u015eahin’s opening lecture, in which he shared his knowledge and experiences, attracted great interest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivering the opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Selahattin Y\u0131ld\u0131z said, “It is a source of proud and a great privilege for us that Prof. Dr. Haluk \u015eahin is giving our opening lecture. I would like to express my gratitude to him and welcome him again.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Dr. Haluk \u015eahin took the floor after Prof. Dr. Y\u0131ld\u0131z and started his speech by saying, “I see my presence here as an honorable celebration. I would like to thank you and the IAU administration for giving me the opportunity to be here.” Prof. Dr. \u015eahin wished that this academic year would be a good year for everyone to improve themselves and emphasized that people should take time for themselves and make an effort to be themselves, and he said “Take time for yourself and ask yourself where I am and what I will do next.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Technological developments complicate our predictions” <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stating that we are at the heart of a historical transformation with the rapid advancement of technology, Prof. Dr. \u015eahin said, “We cannot predict the work we will do in the future by looking at the developments of today’s world. As time progresses, many professions are emerging and emerging. For this reason, you have to be equipped to keep up with the age.” and underlined personal development. Stating that in parallel with technological developments, a new stage called digital society has been entered today and that this is very fast, \u015eahin said that artificial intelligence has changed all professions, especially in the recent period. Referring to the effective use of artificial intelligence technologies especially in the field of journalism, Prof. Dr. \u015eahin said, “We are faced with an event called artificial intelligence. Those who do not use artificial intelligence are doomed to lose. Do not be afraid of this. Make a difference by using artificial intelligence.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is assertive job that being a communicator\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stating that you need be expert have information in many domains but in the old times you needed to be expert in only a domain, Prof. Dr. Haluk \u015eahin said that “You have to be a complete communicator. So you have to have a talent where all the basic skills come together. We all need to know basic digital language. Being a communicator is an assertive job. So you have to train yourself to be able to do many different roles at the same level. Otherwise, why would they give you a job in a world full of images everywhere?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Dr. Haluk \u015eahin oftenly gave advice to young communicators based on his own experiences and said, “You must be knowledgeable. You should know both basic culture and universal culture. Know the society you live in and be brave. Never sit idle, work, produce and be assertive.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Dr. \u015eahin concluded by saying, “You should speak the truth about your own profession. Be true to yourself and your profession.”
