A consensus was reached on establishing a platform that would operate in cooperation with relevant institutions. In addition, a common view was adopted that communication professionals or public relations departments should be included in decision-making mechanisms within institutions.

In the final declaration of the workshop titled The Role of Public Relations in Disaster Communication, the prominent issues on which experts from the business world, non-governmental organizations, and academia converged were listed as follows:

Conceptual training activities should be carried out for professionals practicing the profession, relevant professional organizations, and NGOs in order to establish a common language and to design and implement accurate communication for disaster and emergency processes.

In accreditation processes, communication faculties should be required to consider disaster communication as a criterion for their departments.

While creating educational content on disaster communication, it is necessary to determine the public’s perception of disasters. Therefore, disaster perception research is needed for both the sector and the public.

Professional organizations need to update their regulations or statutes regarding disasters, which are one of the most important problems of our time. In line with professional requirements aimed at creating disaster-resilient societies, this should be included as a separate article or section.

Professional organizations need to develop knowledge-focused approaches in order to produce information, identify accurate information sources, or create them based on lessons learned from experienced disasters. Guides should be prepared within the scope of professional requirements, drawing on good international practices as well. The institutionalization of the content included in these guides and ensuring their continuity are necessary.

Public relations professionals should also plan relationship management according to risks within the institutions they work for. These plans should not be limited to the national level and should also take the international dimension into account when necessary.

The public does not generally focus on disasters during normal times. Therefore, each institution providing services in a disaster-prone region must ensure that the issue remains on its own agenda. Communication professionals should have a mission in this regard within their institutions.

In order to fulfill their responsibilities toward their employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, and all stakeholders, every institution affected by a disaster must keep disaster-related efforts continuously on their agenda.

The full text of the final declaration of the workshop can also be accessed at www.tuhid.org.

The Public Relations Association of Türkiye (TÜHİD), in collaboration with Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Communication, Department of Public Relations and Promotion, and Istanbul Aydın University Disaster Education Application and Research Center (AFAM), published the final declaration of the workshop titled “The Role and Function of Public Relations in Disaster Management,” which was held on […]

[378,380

post-11581","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-anasayfa","category-haberler
["GET
