İstanbul Aydın University Faculty of Pharmacy organized two sustainability-themed panels within the scope of STAR Global Conference 2025
As the Faculty of Pharmacy at Istanbul Aydın University, two online panels titled “Climate Change and Healthcare Sustainability” and “The Formula for Sustainable Living – Perspectives on Health, Food, and Environment” were held within the scope of the STAR Global Conference 2025. The panels addressed the impacts of climate change on human health, the fundamental components of sustainable living, and the environment–health relationship from multidisciplinary perspectives.
In the first panel titled “Climate Change and Healthcare Sustainability,” Dr. Vildan Bayram, Prof. Dr. Fikriye Uras, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ağırbaşlı, and Dr. Can Polat Teker participated as speakers. The session discussed global climate change, the environmental footprint of the healthcare sector, the relationship between air pollution and cardiovascular diseases, and the impact of the pharmaceutical industry on climate change, emphasizing the multidimensional interaction between environment and health.
The second panel titled “The Formula for Sustainable Living – Perspectives on Health, Food, and Environment” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Sevgi Karakuş, with contributions from Dr. Gizem Sena Elagöz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge İnal, Clinical Pharmacist Burcu Onay, and Food Engineer Batuhan İnanlar. Discussions covered the role of mycotoxins in food safety, sustainable beauty practices, waste medicine management in pharmacies, and the environmental impacts of plant-based nutrition, offering a holistic evaluation of the link between health, nutrition, and the environment.
Both panels served as scientific platforms that raised awareness on sustainability by providing participants with up-to-date information within the axis of environment and health.
