Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Pharmacy Organized Two Sustainability-Themed Panels Within the Scope of STAR Global Conference 2025
As the Faculty of Pharmacy at Istanbul Aydın University, we organized two online panels titled “Climate Change and Healthcare Sustainability” and “The Formula for Sustainable Living – Perspectives on Health, Food, and Environment” within the scope of the STAR Global Conference 2025. These panels explored the effects of climate change on health, the essential components of sustainable living, and the environment–health relationship from the perspectives of multiple disciplines.
In the first panel titled “Climate Change and Healthcare Sustainability,” Dr. Vildan Bayram, Prof. Dr. Fikriye Uras, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ağırbaşlı and Dr. Can Polat Teker participated as speakers. The panel addressed topics such as the impacts of global climate change, the environmental role of the healthcare sector, the connection between air pollution and cardiovascular diseases, and the pharmaceutical industry’s influence on climate change—discussing the multidimensional interaction between environment and health.
The second panel, titled “The Formula for Sustainable Living – Perspectives on Health, Food, and Environment,” was moderated by Prof. Dr. Sevgi Karakuş and included contributions from Dr. Gizem Sena Elagöz, Assoc. Prof. Özge İnal, Clinical Pharmacist Burcu Onay, and Food Engineer Batuhan İnanlar. The panel examined the holistic connections among health, nutrition, and the environment through topics such as the role of mycotoxins in food safety, sustainable beauty approaches, waste medicine management in pharmacies, and the environmental effects of plant-based nutrition.
Both panels provided participants with up-to-date knowledge from a sustainability perspective and served as a scientific platform that raised awareness on environmental and health-related issues.
