Two Important Exhibitions Breathing New Life into Historical Heritage from IAU Faculty of Architecture and Design

Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Architecture and Design displayed course projects focused on the preservation and adaptive reuse of historical heritage in a comprehensive exhibition held at the foyer area.

The event took place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the T Block Foyer Area, featuring students’ term projects across two major restoration themes:

  • IMT218/238 Restoration Project: Focused on the adaptive reuse (revitalization) design of the historic Çavuş Hamam located in Balat, Istanbul. The project was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma SEDES and Asst. Prof. Dr. Fernaz ÖNCEL.
  • MMT218/238 Conservation and Restoration Project: Showcased the adaptive reuse designs of the Sibyan Schools (primary schools) located within Mimar Sinan’s Kulliyes in Istanbul. The project was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma SEDES and Dr. Şirin AKINCI.

Curated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Veli Rauf VELİBEYOĞLU and organized with the contributions of Prof. Dr. Ufuk Fatih KÜÇÜKALI, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Design, the exhibitions highlighted innovative approaches integrating historical heritage with contemporary design.
