‘AVRUPA’ MEETS THE AUDIENCE

The play “Avrupa,” written by David Greig, translated by Hakan Silahsızoğlu, and directed by the Head of the Drama and Acting Department, Prof. Mehmet Birkiye, premiered at the Cevahir 2 Stage on October 17, 2017. The production also features Gülşah Fırıncıoğlu, an expert staff member of our department, in the cast.

The creative team includes Şirin Dağtekin Yenen for set and costume design, Yakup Çartık for lighting design, and the department’s Movement instructor, Alpaslan Karaduman, for choreography. The music for the play was composed by Fırat Akarcalı.

“Europe” tells the story of two undocumented refugees who arrive in a border town facing social and economic decay. While fleeing the war in their own country, they become victims of the tension that economic struggles have created among the local population. The characters are brought to life by Dündar Müftüoğlu, Atilla Şendil, Eylem Yıldız, Umut Tabak, Gülşah Fırıncıoğlu, Ferdi Alver, Zuhal Acar, and our department graduates Gökay Akgör, Hakan Yeni, Burak Çiçek, Ferit Çelik, and Ahmet Armutlu.
