The second certificate ceremony of the ‘Cinema and Film Academy’, carried out in partnership between our University and MEDYAPIM, was held. At the end of the 16-week training program, certificates were presented at the ceremony to the participants who successfully completed the program and gained employment opportunities in the media sector.
The ‘Cinema and Film Academy’, organized in cooperation between Istanbul Aydın University (IAU) and MEDYAPIM and stated to be the first of its kind in Türkiye, held its second certificate ceremony on June 16. Following the training program that started in March and lasted 16 weeks, successful participants received their certificates at the ceremony. Through the Academy, it is aimed to bring producers, directors, and screenwriters into the sector, while the established collaboration will provide successful participants with employment opportunities, bringing fresh momentum to the industry.
The certificate ceremony, hosted by IAU, was attended by our Chairman of the Board of Trustees Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın, IAU Rector Prof. Dr. Yadigâr İzmirli, our Vice Rectors, as well as MED Yapım Founder Fatih Aksoy, MED Yapım producers, directors, screenwriters, sector representatives, and our university’s academic and administrative staff.
BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL TRAINING PROVIDED
The theoretical training at the Academy was delivered by faculty members of Istanbul Aydın University’s Faculty of Communication and Fine Arts, while the practical training was provided by Fatih Aksoy, Mahir Tok, Gülümsün Özkök, Direnç Aksoy, Meltem Kayalı, Asena Bülbüloğlu, Merve Girgin, Emre Erkan, Kemal Hamamcıoğlu, Neslihan Yeşilyurt, Murat Öztürk, and Yusuf Pirhasan from MEDYAPIM.
“WE ARE CLOSING THE HUMAN RESOURCES GAP”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın stated that they are addressing the shortage of qualified personnel in the sector through this collaboration and said the following in his remarks: “In recent years, Türkiye’s TV series, films, entertainment, and cultural industry products have started to receive demand from all over the world. Previously, Brazilian series were popular; now people everywhere talk about Turkish series. However, this has caused the sector to face a challenge. In line with this demand, a need for trained personnel emerged in the industry. To close this gap, we came together with Medyapım and established this academy. We started last year, and these are our second graduates. These young people receive both theoretical and practical training. They receive their theoretical education at our university and then apply this knowledge practically by going to sets and working directly in production companies. In this way, they are employed by the sector under good conditions even before graduating. This is how we are closing the human resources gap in the TV and film industry. I hope our efforts and collaboration will continue for many more years,” he said.
“THE EMPLOYMENT RATE WILL INCREASE EVERY YEAR”
Fatih Aksoy said, “We were founded 30 years ago. We have always recruited very new people. We both trained and worked with new university graduates. Then, the entire sector provided jobs to those people. Today, a significant part of the TV sector has been trained by us. Demand has increased much more, meaning there was a need for more people. That’s why I consulted with Professor Mustafa. He immediately agreed. This is not only a foundation university, but also a university that moves the fastest and embraces and develops any new idea. Therefore, I thank everyone,” he said. Fatih Aksoy continued his remarks as follows: “This is the second year of the academy. We graduated 28 people in the first year and 27 in the second year. Our goal here is to select and train people who genuinely want this. This year’s graduates are even more advanced and brighter than last year’s. This will continue in the coming years. Graduates here start working with us. Some of these graduates are already working with us. We want this to become a standard in the sector. We want to provide employment, and for those we cannot employ, we will direct them to other companies. The purpose of this is as follows: why do we take 27–28 people instead of 128? Because we can employ that many people. It is important for us that people graduating from here start working in the sector within the same year. Hopefully, this rate will increase a little more every year.”
